What is LEED?

LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”.

LEED was designed to encourage and accelerate global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted standards, tools, and performance criteria. Reference http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1750

Today there is a growing interest among building owners, developers, architects, contractors and construction products manufacturers to adopt key principles promulgated by LEED. Rainguard is not an exception.

What is Rainguard Doing?

At Rainguard we have long adopted strict environmental standards in all the products we make.

  • None of our products produce volatile organic compounds that exceed the strictest air emission standards in the country – the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
  • Many of our products were used as an example of how high performance coatings can produce uncompromising results while lowering air emissions. See aqmd board notes http://www.aqmd.gov/hb/2003/0312min.html
  • In addition, none of our products contain chemicals that are known to cause cancer.

Over the past year we have moved aggressively to ensure our products meet LEED credit requirements. Please note in our product information pages we have added the LEED credit calculation for your use. Working together we can achieve our business goals and at the same time succeed in improving human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

  • LEED-NC (New Construction)
LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations is a green building rating system that was designed to guide and distinguish high-performance commercial and institutional projects, with a focus on office buildings.

  • LEED-EB (Existing Buildings)
LEED for Existing Buildings maximizes operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts. It provides a recognized, performance-based benchmark for building owners and operators to measure operations, improvements and maintenance on a consistent scale.
